Once sage Durvasa cursed Indra and the devas, stripping them of their strength and allowing the asuras to overpower them. Seeking help, they turned to Vishnu, who advised them to work together with the asuras to churn the ocean of milk for the nectar of immortality. Using Mount Mandara and the serpent Vasuki, they began, but when the mountain sank, Vishnu took the Koorma (tortoise) form to support it. During the churning, deadly poison emerged, which Shiva contained, and eventually divine treasures appeared, including Lakshmi and the nectar.
This story reflects life itself- the constant churning between our positive and negative forces. With balance, effort, and inner stability, even challenges (poison) lose their power, and wisdom (nectar) emerges.
विष्णु के दूसरे अवतार की कथा कहती है कि, एक बार ऋषि दुर्वासा के श्राप से इंद्र और देवताओं की शक्ति और तेज समाप्त हो गया, जिससे असुर उन पर हावी होने लगे। सहायता के लिए वे भगवान विष्णु के पास गए, जिन्होंने उन्हें असुरों के साथ मिलकर क्षीरसागर का मंथन करने की सलाह दी, ताकि अमरत्व का अमृत प्राप्त किया जा सके।
मंदराचल पर्वत और वासुकी नाग की सहायता से मंथन शुरू हुआ, लेकिन पर्वत डूबने लगा। तब विष्णु ने एक विशाल कूर्म अवतार लेकर उसे अपनी पीठ पर संभाला। मंथन के दौरान अनेक दिव्य वस्तुएं प्रकट हुईं, और साथ ही भयंकर विष हलाहल निकला, उसके धुएं से सारा जीवन नष्ट होने का खतरा पैदा हो गया। अंततः भगवान शिव ने उसे अपने कंठ में धारण किया। आख़िरकार अंत में लक्ष्मी तथा अमृत प्रकट हुए।
कूर्म अवतार केवल एक कहानी नहीं, बल्कि गहरा जीवन सिद्धांत है, धैर्य और स्थिरता के साथ इंद्रिय नियंत्रण।यह कथा हमारे जीवन का प्रतिबिंब है, जहाँ सकारात्मक और नकारात्मक विचारों के बीच निरंतर संघर्ष चलता है। संतुलन, प्रयास और धैर्य से कठिनाइयाँ निष्प्रभावी हो जाती हैं और अंततः ज्ञान रूपी अमृत प्राप्त होता है।
