Antra Srivastava
Antra is primarily a seeker and observer who expresses her experiences through colors and words. Her path of inner quest began with the parables heard in early childhood and gradually the seeds of inquisitiveness led her to dig deep into the ancient Indian scriptures and various school of thoughts and philosophies. It worked as bridge by forming a rich tapestry of wisdom and became the core subject of her work.
Nature is dynamic energy that resides in all its forms and this does include her works of art too. She is innately connected with nature. The Colors, forms, textures of trees, flowers, shrubs and landscapes in their natural state have always been the source of inventiveness for her.
She combine multiple layers of colors to achieve the harmony and rhythm in her work. Her motive is to explore this fine line of ambiguity between abstraction, realism and create a surreal effect through the process of organic lines and layering. Hues of blues and greens are an integral part of her compositions blending poetically with the earthy tones, which grow into space and take their own forms….forms that tend to carry a distinctive energy of their own, evoking a sense of movement and a sense of stability at the same time. She constantly attempts to go beyond the boundaries of rationality in order to explore the deep psyche of the human mind. The inherent Surrealism in her work is a steady constant- a reason why Antra’s art has an element of cosmic mystery. It is visceral, it is cerebral and most often, indefinable. She says ‘I remain both a participant and witness in the entire creative process, the process which proves to be an opportunity to know the realms of untapped creative energies within.
She has been showcasing her work across the country and internationally extensively through numerous solo and group shows since 1999. An acclaimed Iraqi Poet has collaborated with Antra to publish an idiosyncratic gem called ‘Poetic Palette’. The book showcases her paintings based on the poems of the poet. It has received great response.
She has deep interest in language and literature and apart from expressing through the brush, she expresses herself through her poems and other literary mediums just as eloquently. A collection of her hindi poems has also been published and is available on Amazon . The anthology is called Mann Pankhi Khwab Aasman. She has also translated a novella named A Gothic Christmas Angel by an award winning American author Anna Erishkigal, which was also received with much love. Antra has been sponsored and promoted by eminent International gallerist Mona Youssef in International shows. Her works find a rightful place in the collections of Film Director Anurag Kashyap, Padma vibhushan and ex MP Rajya sabha Dr. Sonal Mansingh, Actor and social influencer Anushka sen, various embassies, VIP chambers, Army Messes, various senior Army/ Govt offices /corporates/business owners’ private collections in India and abroad. Her art is also displayed at The Royal Itarana Palace , Alwar. Antra Srivastava is currently based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
